10.06.26
It is with deep sadness that Aronberg Goldgehn shares the recent loss of one of its patriarchs, Mitchell Goldgehn, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 26, at the age of 95. Mitch (also known affectionately as “Mickey” to friends) was a brilliant and respected attorney, a generous mentor, a loyal friend, a kind man who made time for people, and a beloved husband, father, step-father and grandfather. Mitch was revered by colleagues and foes alike, was considered a titan of the Chicago legal community, and established a nationally recognized reputation for his exceptional legal skills. Mitch leaves behind a legacy of integrity, excellence, loyalty, mentorship and professionalism.
Mitch joined Aronberg Goldgehn (as it is now known) in 1983, and for nearly five decades, he continued his dedication to excellence in the practice of law. He represented clients in commercial and insurance disputes and earned a reputation as a consummate gentleman, a meticulous attorney, a loyal colleague and a master of his craft. Mitch gave tirelessly and selflessly to his profession, especially when it came to mentoring the next generation. Mitch shared his knowledge freely. He would regularly, and without a second thought, set aside his own work to help a colleague think through a difficult problem. He took particular pleasure in helping younger lawyers grow, and he was always willing to step out of the spotlight so they could succeed. His generosity was practical, steady, and deeply felt by the people who worked alongside him.
A formidable trial lawyer, Mitch built a legendary legal career by an unwavering commitment to excellence and an unmatched work ethic. His remarkable record of success was never a matter of chance; it was the direct result of meticulous, exhaustive preparation. By the time he walked into a courtroom or entered a negotiation, he had already anticipated every counterargument, mastered every fact. and positioned himself well ahead of his opponents. To those who worked with him and against him, he was respected as a peerless advocate whose intellectual mastery and preparation set a gold standard for the profession.
Mitch’s integrity, generosity, and commitment to excellence leave a lasting impact on countless clients, colleagues and members of the legal community. We mourn Mitch’s passing and are grateful for his long life, his friendship and the examples he gave us. His legacy will live on through the many lives that he touched.
We are all better individuals, better lawyers, because of him.
